Diotima’s Concept of Love/Diotima e o conceito platônico do amor

My article »Diotima’s Concept of Love« in Brazilian book Erotismo, Feminismo e Empoderamento, University of Brasil, forthcoming 2026.

Ancient Greek society praised male homosexual love as the highest and divine form of love. In the article I am trying to show that his concept applies not only to men who love men but also to women in general and women who love women. All more because as Plato says through Socrates that his concept of love was offered by woman named Diotima. And since this concept offers a philosophical path to divinity and divine, wise love then those who follow his or Diotima’s lead could achieve divine love. Why I argue for this position through Socrates’, and Diotima respectively position? Because nowhere else can we found a woman who offered a more influential, divine concept of love in the Western history. And if we indeed follow/believe Socrates’s words that he merely repeats what he was told by Diotima then this is the only concept of love in the world that was created by woman.
